Our founders, Sandy and Kylie, both had careers in social work and public relations. With the declining economy, they witnessed the need for charity every day. However, they couldn’t help noticing that while there were many organizations providing assistance to families in need of food, clothing, and housing, one family member in particular was continually overlooked – the family pet.

Unfortunately, many families are forced to surrender their pets due to unforeseen circumstances. That’s why Sandy and Kylie made it their mission to ensure that their families would be able to feed their pets. They began distributing pet food on the stoop of a small restaurant, and in August 2010, they gave out more than 300 pounds of pet food at their first distribution. Fast forward seven years, and we now assist an average of 200 families each month. In 2017, we distributed over 186,000 pounds of food.

Bi-State Pet Food Pantry operates solely on volunteers’ time and efforts with six board members and nearly 50 volunteers. When families fall on hard times, we’re here to help people care for their four-legged family members!

Once a month we hold distribution events. You can find out our distribution times on the Events/Calendar section, via our Facebook page, or by calling 314-596-2128. Patrons of the pantry may not line up before 9:00 a.m. Please stay in your vehicles until 9:00 a.m.

If you find yourself experiencing financial difficulty and are unable to provide for your pet, we are more than happy to help. Please see the Need Help tab for a full list of guidelines

You must bring a picture ID with your current address. You also must provide proof of need (Medicaid card, Food Stamp award letter, unemployment letter, referral letter, low-income tax return, or disability award letter). We also require proof that at least one of your pets have been spayed/neutered. The paperwork must have the pet’s name and the owner’s name on the document. (You will need to provide proof of spay/neuter for another pet each month that you receive food until all pets receiving assistance have been spayed/neutered).

You will only receive food assistance one time per month. Enough food will be provided to feed each animal for about one month, with a maximum of 50 pounds per animal depending on their size.

Bi-State Pet Food Pantry welcomes the participation of individuals, schools, churches, and service organizations. Volunteer opportunities include bagging, distribution, fundraising and donation coordination.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Exceptions are made for minors accompanied by a guardian.

:We are unable to deliver at this time. If you are in need of assistance but don’t have access to a vehicle, please try the bus system.

If you add additional pets after your initial visit to the pantry, we will no longer assist you with pet food. If you need help feeding the animals you already have, you should not assume the financial responsibility of another pet. Our mission is to help you keep the pets you have now, not so you can adopt more.

Please understand the food provided is donated and may not be your current brand, which may upset your pet’s stomach (it is best to mix the donated food gradually to your current food).

No. We ask if a neighbor, family member, or friend needs help too, they contact the Pantry directly at (314) 596-2128 to schedule a time convenient for them to pick up food or you may carpool together to get food at the same time.

Since our food is donated, we do have some food for other pets, but it is not guaranteed.
